What brings you joy?

  • What brings you peace?
  • How could you incorporate more of what you love into your day?

I spent the weekend in Maleny one month ago. Maleny is about 2 hours from Brisbane and is in the hinterland of Sunshine Coast. The air was cool, ground was lush and fresh produce picked and farmed locally! I thought – I could live here! My time up in Maleny was really short (2 nights) yet I thoroughly enjoyed being in nature as we hiked around the property and soaked up the hinterland. On the last night there, it rained and I woke to clouds all around me. It truly felt like my head was in the clouds. In the best possible way! Spending time in Maleny and walking around in nature was so good for my soul and I left with my heart full! I thought – Why don’t I do this more often?

A few weeks later I caught up with my friend and we went for a 90 minute hike at Mt Cootha. I really enjoyed being outdoors and soaking up the beautiful environment. It was my first time in all of my years living in Brisbane (about 25 years) to go on a hike at Mt Cootha which is so close to where I live. I thought Why don’t I do this more often?

Often I have thought – I don’t have money to dedicate to xyz activity, can’t afford to do that. I don’t have time cos I am such a busy human being 😉. However, recent time spent hiking and simply walking has been refreshing and enabled me to connect with nature so much more. Activities you love don’t have to cost the earth. Walking is a privilege … and it’s free.

Which leads me to this post…

  • What do you love to do that you perhaps have forgotten you love to do?
  • What is stopping you from doing what you love?
  • How can you do more of what fills you up and is so good for your heart and soul?
  • Next steps from here?

I know watching and consuming bad news article after the other and scrolling through news can feel truly overwhelming. Overwhelm is real and can leave people feeling cluttered with full brains and a body full of cortisol pumping hard. Making time to do what you love on a regular basis has the potential to bring a little or a lot of joy and happiness to your heart and reset the nervous system. Goodness knows we need a bit more of that in our lives at the moment.

  • What are your plans for the week?
  • How can you cultivate joy and peace in your life?

Food for thought as we move into the festive season.
